Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how AppsInventor ("we", "us", "our"), the developer of the Rasoma mobile application ("Rasoma", the "App"), collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information. It also describes your rights and how to exercise them.
Rasoma is a private family recipe keeper. Its purpose is to help families preserve and share their recipes, stories, and food heritage within closed family groups. We designed it to be private by default. This policy reflects that.
If you have any questions, contact us at rasoma@appsinventor.com.
1. Who we are (Data Controller)
The data controller responsible for your personal information is:
- AppsInventor
- India
- Contact: rasoma@appsinventor.com
2. Scope
This policy applies to the Rasoma mobile application on Android and iOS and to this website, hosted at https://rasoma.appsinventor.com. It does not apply to third-party services we rely on, which have their own privacy policies (see Section 7).
3. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to run the App. We do not sell your personal information.
3.1 Information you provide
- Account information: your email address and password (for email/password sign-up), or your Google account identifier and basic profile data if you choose "Continue with Google".
- Profile information: your display name, an optional profile photo, your preferred language (locale), and your measurement units preference (metric or imperial).
- Content you create: recipes you add, including titles, stories, ingredients, steps, times, servings, attribution notes (for example "from Nani"), and any photos you upload.
- Family group information: family groups you create or join, group names and descriptions, your family-relationship label within a group (for example "Amma"), your role in the group (owner, curator, member, or viewer), and invite codes used to join.
- Consent records: whether you accepted this Privacy Policy and the Terms, the version you accepted, and the date and time of acceptance. We keep this to comply with data-protection law and to re-prompt you if the policy materially changes.
- Reports you submit: if you report content, we keep the report (the reason, any note you add, and your account identifier) and a record of any action we take on it. Reports are confidential and are not shown to other members. We keep these records to keep the App safe and to meet our legal obligations.
3.2 Information collected automatically
- Device and technical data: device type, operating system version, app version, language settings, and crash or diagnostic information used to keep the App stable.
- Usage data: basic, limited information about how the App is used so we can operate and improve it.
- App integrity data: Rasoma uses Firebase App Check to verify that requests come from a genuine, unmodified instance of the App. This helps prevent abuse of our backend.
3.3 Information we do NOT collect
- We do not collect precise location data.
- We do not show third-party advertising inside the private family space, and we do not share your content with advertisers.
4. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you.
- Provide the core service: storing your recipes and photos and showing them to the members of your family groups.
- Enable family-group features such as invites, membership, and roles.
- Sync your content across your devices and make recipes available offline.
- Send service-related notifications you have enabled (for example, activity in your family groups), using Firebase Cloud Messaging.
- Maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and keep the App stable and reliable.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms.
We do not use your family recipes or photos to train advertising profiles.
5. Legal bases for processing (GDPR / UK GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases:
- Performance of a contract: to provide the App and its core features once you have an account.
- Consent: where you have given it (for example, accepting this policy at sign-up, or enabling optional notifications). You may withdraw consent at any time; see Section 9.
- Legitimate interests: to secure the App, prevent abuse, and improve the service, balanced against your rights and freedoms.
- Legal obligation: where we must process data to comply with applicable law.
6. How we share your information
We share your information only as described here.
- Within your family groups: recipes, photos, your display name, and your family-relationship label are visible to other members of the family groups you belong to. This is the core purpose of the App. Content in a family group is shared only with that group and is not public.
- Service providers (processors): we use trusted infrastructure providers to run the App (see Section 7). They process data on our behalf under contractual obligations and may not use it for their own purposes.
- Legal and safety reasons: we may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or our service.
- Business transfers: if our business is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any change in control or use of your personal information.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.
7. Third-party services
Rasoma is built on Google Firebase. These providers process data to deliver the App:
- Firebase Authentication (sign-in and account management)
- Cloud Firestore (storing your account, profile, family, and recipe data)
- Firebase Storage (storing your recipe photos)
- Cloud Functions (server-side operations such as processing invites)
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications, if enabled)
- Firebase App Check (verifying app integrity)
- Google Sign-In (optional sign-in method)
These services are provided by Google. Their handling of data is governed by Google's privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. For information about how Firebase processes data, see https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
8. Data retention
- We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active.
- If you delete specific content (such as a recipe), it is removed from active systems and from members' views. Residual copies may persist briefly in backups before being overwritten on our providers' normal cycles.
- If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain data to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
- Content you contributed to a shared family group may remain visible to that group after you leave, but it will no longer be associated with your active account.
9. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Export / data portability: obtain a copy of your data in a portable format. Rasoma provides an in-app data export option.
- Rectify inaccurate or incomplete information (for example, edit your display name in Settings).
- Delete your account and associated personal data. Rasoma provides an in-app account-deletion option; see also how to delete your account.
- Restrict or object to certain processing.
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
To exercise these rights, use the in-app controls in Settings, or contact us at rasoma@appsinventor.com. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
Notice for California residents (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, to correct inaccurate information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined under California law. To make a request, contact rasoma@appsinventor.com.
10. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including:
- Encryption of data in transit between the App and our servers.
- Authentication and access controls so that only members of a family group can read that group's content, enforced by server-side security rules.
- App integrity verification via Firebase App Check.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to address any vulnerabilities responsibly.
11. International data transfers
Our infrastructure providers may store and process your data on servers located in countries other than your own, including the United States. Where personal data is transferred out of the EEA or the UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an adequacy decision. For details on Google's transfer mechanisms, see the Firebase and Google privacy resources linked in Section 7.
12. Children's privacy
Rasoma is intended for use by adults and by family members of suitable age under the supervision of an adult account holder. The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under that age without verifiable parental consent.
If a parent or guardian adds a child's name, photo, or recipes to a private family group, the account holder is responsible for that content and confirms they have the right to share it. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without appropriate consent, contact us at rasoma@appsinventor.com and we will take appropriate steps to remove it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date and, where required, notify you in the App and ask you to review and accept the updated policy. Your continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised policy, except where your fresh consent is required by law.
14. Contact us
